Cervical Screening Programme

Women are advised to have a cervical smear test every three years, from the age of 20 to 70.   The Cervical Screening Program is designed to encourage women to have regular cervical smear tests, and the aim is to detect abnormal cells before they become cancerous, as these can be very easily treated at this stage.

The Central PHO Cervical Screening Team provides cervical screening to women who are unable to, or do not wish to visit their General Practice.  Women have a choice of venue, as there are several screening options within the region.  There is no cost to attend the PHO clinics.
