Central PHO is a non-for-profit charitable trust, that provides primary healthcare services to the MidCentral DHB population.

We are based in Palmerston North and looking for a skilled BI Analyst to join our team. This is a fantastic opportunity for anyone in BI wanting to move into the health domain, or wanting to do more value-add and proactive BI work.

You’ll be joining a high performing and tight-knit team which is part of driving business transformation through actionable insights. Reporting to the Health Intelligence Manager, and working closely with clinical, support and development teams, you will be helping us grow our analytics maturity in a fast-paced change environment.

At the beginning you would be involved in the following activities:

  • Learning what drives our team’s stakeholders, and where BI adds value for us
  • Getting familiar with our data warehouse architecture and its many data sources
  • Delivering ad hoc reporting and undertaking data analysis to identify patterns and trends
  • Collaborating closely with stakeholders to design BI solutions that meet a range of needs
  • Developing standard dashboards and reports using BI tools

As you learn the business and data you would start to:

  • Undertake more advanced data modelling and gaining new insights/stories from our data
  • Be involved in KPI development and quality improvement initiatives
  • Encourage the democratisation of data through presentations and workshops, etc
  • Support data quality improvement initiatives and business rule development
  • Undertake project work, including research

Our ideal candidate would have the following technical skills:

  • Experience with relational databases, and wrangling large data sets
  • Ability to code SQL is a must, and preferably familiarity with MS SQL Server
  • Understanding of data warehouse and ETL concepts
  • Expertise in data visualisation and dashboard development
  • Experience with software such as Excel, WhereScape, Tableau, SSAS, SSMS, O365

But this job isn’t just about technology, we also are looking for the following soft skills:

  • Critical thinking, problem solving, and creative flair
  • Ability to see the big picture, as well as get right into the detail
  • Emotional intelligence, resilience, and ability to communicate clearly and concisely
  • A self-starter, confident in drawing conclusions and making recommendations
  • Non-judgemental, and a genuine interest in working to enhance our populations’ health

What you’ll get in return:

  • Strong backing for the work you do, and the reward of seeing BI outputs translate into action
  • An opportunity to develop more advanced analytics skills and learn new technologies
  • You’ll be working with the latest versions of industry leading technology
  • Exposure to a huge range of data domains – including clinical, business, and financial data
  • A huge opportunity for personal and professional growth, and build your network
