Supporting stopping smoking in MidCentral

Supporting smokers to quit continues to be a big priority for Central PHO (CPHO). “We have targets set by the Government to have all the practice or medical centre smoking status records accurate for 90% of the enrolled population, and to have offered brief advice and cessation support for 90% of current smokers by 30^th June 2012,” said CPHO Clinical Director Chiquita Hansen. “We are steadily working towards these targets. For example the percentage of enrolled people with a smoking status recorded improved from 76% at December 2011 to 81% at March 2012”.

Smoking Cessation Call Centre

The best thing you can do for your health is to stop smoking.

Compass Health, Compass Primary HealthCare Network, Central PHO and Wairarapa PHO are working with practices to increase the number of patients to be given brief advice regarding their smoking.

Graham Black covers Central PHO Primary Mental Health in the Tararua

The PHO Team in the Tararua District welcomed back Graham Black, following the resignation of Dominic Fouhy in mid January. “Graham is well known in the Tararua District and he already has good connections with the colleges, General Practices and Community organisations, so he is off to a good head start,” said PHO General Manager Joe Howells.
