Central Primary Health Organisation (PHO) is located in the MidCentral health district, encompassing Otaki, Horowhenua, Manawatu and Tararua regions. It was formed in July 2010 from the Otaki, Horowhenua, Manawatu and Tararua PHOs.
Supporting smokers to quit continues to be a big priority for Central PHO (CPHO). “We have targets set by the Government to have all the practice or medical centre smoking status records accurate for 90% of the enrolled population, and to have offered brief advice and cessation support for 90% of current smokers by 30th June 2012,” said CPHO Clinical Director Chiquita Hansen. “We are steadily working towards these targets. For example the percentage of enrolled people with a smoking status recorded improved from 76% at December 2011 to 81% at March 2012”.

The PHO Team in the Tararua District welcomed back Graham Black, following the resignation of Dominic Fouhy in mid January. “Graham is well known in the Tararua District and he already has good connections with the colleges, General Practices and Community organisations, so he is off to a good head start,” said PHO General Manager Joe Howells.
